24-Apr-16: Double win for Wincanton Youth Teams

Sunday 24th April proved to be a "Super Sunday" for Wincanton Town FC (Youth Section) with both the U15s and U16s winning their respective Yeovil and District Football League Knockout Cup finals played at Somerton.

Wincanton U15s - Winners 2016 Div 1 KO Cup (sponsored by The Fun Zone)

Merriot Bombers 0 - 17 Wincanton Town

The Under 15s game was controlled by Wincanton from the start and continued throughout the game. However, Winky did not sit back and relax but worked as a team at all times to score some brilliantly worked goals. Most members of the team managed to feature on the score sheet, with some very unselfish play to help others too.

Wincanton U16s - Winners 2016 Div 2 KO Cup

Bruton United 1 - 5 Wincanton Town

The Under 16s game was a much closer affair against local rivals where, in the early stages, both teams struggled to gain control. However, when the goals started to flow, the game turned in favour of Winky, with some absolutely beautiful football played that, at times, left the supporting fans in awe! It was also great to see the under 16s win in their final season with the Youth Section, and show how much they have all developed as players during their time with the club. Equally, huge thanks must go to their manager, Tony Leach, who is retiring as a team manager at the end of the season, after many committed years of service to his teams.
(Match reports by Ben Hamblin).
Well done to both teams for representing the club so admirably and good luck as they enter their final games of the season where both are fighting to win their respective league titles.

13-Mar-16: Chairman Nick Hamblin steps down

It is with great sadness that the Club Commitee received notification on Friday 13th March that Nick Hamblin, Club Chairperson for nearly 6 years was to step down with immediate effect.

The Club now has a position vacant for Chairperson and is seeking nominations for the role.

In the interim, please pass all correspondence for the chairperson to either Sean Chapman (Club Secretary) or Tony Leach (Vice Chairperson).

The Club Committee wishes to express its great thanks to Nick for all his industry and enthusiasm in leading Wincanton Town (Youth Section) into FA Community Club Status and developing the club into a true footballing place of excellence for the community of Wincanton and of course the best place for young players to enjoy football.

Nick has expressed his desire to continue serving on the committee & for the club and this offer was gratefully accepted at the Commitee meeting held on Friday.

15-Feb-16: Winkytots and Leah Poole

It is with great sadness that we heard on Friday of the demise of local young kids sport organisation Winkytots run by Leah Poole. Leah has announced that due to personal circumstances she is no longer able to continue to run Winkytots for the forseeable future and the organsisation was closed yesterday (14/02/16) with immediate effect.

WTFCY will continue to run the U7, U8 and U9 teams who were undertaking training in association with Winkytots. These teams will now be run by WTFCY solely under Club management.

Leah, who announced the changes here, will also be stepping down as Club Child Welfare Officer. As a result of Leah's announcement, Phil Appleby has kindly stepped in at short notice to take on the extremely important role of Child Welfare Officer (CWO) at WTFCY.

Phil who is also the Club's Under 15s manager has undertaken the role as a welfare officer previously for the club and is up to speed with the latest welfare training.

The Club wishes to express its great thanks to Leah with all her support to creating and developing the U7, U8 and U9 teams from scratch through her Winkytots venture and certainly it is to her great credit that these teams now exist and flourish. The Club wishes Leah all the very best for the future and in her chosen career journey.

Nick likened Don to a stick of rock indicating he was sure to have "Wincanton" running through him.

15-Mar-15: U14s reach FINAL of Somerset County Lewin Cup!

Somerset Lewin Cup
Semi-Final RESULT:-
Wincanton Town U14 2 - 0 Weston Crusaders

What a day for the players and parents of the U14s and of course for everyone connected with Wincanton Town Youth.

We were all treated to an absolutely fantastic game of football from both teams befitting of a semi-final, which was played on the No 1 Stadium pitch at Wincanton.

The Winky U14 lads settled well into the tie and were soon imposing their superb passing game on a well organised Weston Crusaders side. We opened the scoring with a fine finish from Harry Warwick midway through the first half and a second goal was soon added courtesy of a header from Ollie Thorner from a pinpoint Will Hopkins corner.
With a 2-0 lead at half-time the lads were able to maintain total control of proceedings in the second half with a disciplined team performance to secure the victory. It was a well-deserved success and a moment to enjoy having lost out at the same stage of the competition last season.

Congratulations to everyone in the U14s squad and we look forward to playing in the Somerset Lewin County Cup Final - date and venue to be announced- at the end of the season.

10-Jul-2013: Message from Chairman re: Peter Rochford

It is with great sadness that we have to inform you that one of our main sponsors and supporter of our club, Peter Rochford, sadly passed away on Friday 5th July.

Over the past few years, Peter has played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of both the club and the sports ground. All of this hard work was in addition to being dealer principal at Rochfords Garden Machinery which has risen to great success over the last few decades and has brought huge volumes of business to wincanton.

His funeral is being held at St Lukes Church, Wincanton on Thursday 18th July at 3pm and his family have asked that "happy clothes" (no black ties) are worn as a celebration of Peter’s life. This will be followed by a reception at Wincanton Sports Ground.
