Wincanton Town Football Club (Youth Section)

Wincanton Town Football Club Youth (WTFCY) is run as a organisation dedicated to the encouragement of young footballers in the Wincanton area.

We are run by a team of volunteers who give their time and experience free of charge. The Club has a commitee of personel who manage the day to day running and operation of the club.

The club is run on a non-profit making basis under the guidance of the Somerset FA.

We are FA Affiliated

Wincanton Town FC Youth is fully affiliated to the Somerset Football Association.

It is through affiliation that the family of football is brought together and correct standards and discipline are maintained. Affiliation acts as a quality assurance and as a safety net to help protect players, clubs, officials and administrators throughout the game.

Charter Standard Community Club

The FA Charter Standard Club Programme was established in February 2001 to provide
recognition that clubs are well run and sustainable, with child protection and safety
paramount. It also recognises the club’s commitment to coaching, player and coach
development and the raising of standards of behaviour in the game.

Of the 3200+ FA Charter standard clubs, Wincanton Town FC Youth are one of only 330+ clubs to gain the prestigious FA Charter Standard Community Club Award - the highest award that can be achieved for an FA affiliated youth club.

Gaining and maintaining this recognition requires a lot of hard work from all involved at the club, from players, parents, carers through to managers, officers and coaching staff.
The major benefits from affiliation to Somserset FA include:

  • Being part of the structure of the National Game from grassroots upwards
  • Eligibility to participate in County FA competitions
  • Discipline and Fair Play
  • Access to grant aid and funding from the Football Association
  • Access to information and advice from the County FA personnel, FA Regional Development Manger and FA Regional Facility Managers
  • Access to FA and County FA publications and resources
  • Participation in FA football development schemes such as Charter Standard Awards.

Relationship to Wincanton Town FC

WTFCY are now enhancing our relationship with Wincanton Town FC (WTFC) Senior Team to foster a close working partnership with the aim of transitioning our junior players through to the Senior Club.

We now have representatives from the WTFC attending our committee meetings to promote closer ties to the club.

We hope to benefit soon from more senior players from Wincanton Town FC working and coaching with our Juniors and encouraging progression to the Senior team.

We support the FA Respect campaign

We support FA Respect, the national campaign that aims to tackle the mass drop-out of referees from football due to abuse. Thousands of referees dropped out of the game last season leading to the number of match officials hitting its lowest ever level.

Respect is the collective responsibility of everyone involved in football, at all levels, to create a fair, safe and enjoyable environment in which the game can take place. It is the behavioural code for football.

For our club, the FA Respect Programme includes four practical steps to improve behaviour on the pitch and on the sidelines in and at matches:-

Step 1: Codes of Conduct
Step 2: Designated Spectators’ Area
Step 3: The captain takes responsibility
Step 4: The referee manages the game.
